Hi, I'm Janice

I'm a first year at the University of Pennsylvania studying Computer Science. Currently, I'm interested in tech for social good, design and visual culture, and linguistics.

At Penn, I'm apart of Hack4Impact, where I help build nonprofit software as a developer. I hope to build technologies that can be used to uplift others and encourage action.

about me

I'm a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania studying Computer Science at the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Currently, I'm interested in tech for social good, design and visual culture, and linguistics.

At Penn, I'm apart of Hack4Impact, where I help build nonprofit software as a developer. I hope to build technologies that can be used to uplift others and encourage action. In Fall of 2020, I was a technical developer on the Here-to-Serve project, which produced a completely revamped volunteer management system. Currently, I'm a technical developer and designer working on an interactive map for the Black Innovation Alliance.

In addition, I'm currently working as an Campus Facilitator for Kode With Klossy, where I support scholars by leading an 8-week, virtual intensive teaching web development to high school girls.

When I'm not coding, I love exploring design, discovering new artists, and trying new recipes!

Youth for Black Lives

Youth for Black Lives is a toolkit featuring numerous anti-racism resources for teens, by teens on informing, educating, and taking action. I designed the publication and created custom graphics to supplement the information being shared. In addition, I created shareable social media templates to encourage teens to take action.

Speculative Design Manual

The task was to develop a speculative instruction guide for an object that solves a future problem. My design shows the workings of a device that converts energy made via photosynthesis in trees into electricity to power homes.

Invisible Cities Book Cover Mock-Up

Using Italo Calvino’s book, Invisible Cities, I was tasked to create a graphic image of the concepts embedded in the description of a city of choice. This image was then used to create a modern book cover mock-up. My design illustrates the monotonous, yet wishful city of Fedora.
